“Where you start does not have to determine where you finish.”Isaiah “HMBL Zay” Thomas, founder

A hands-on trade school for young Philadelphians, built on 3,000 miles of walking from Philly to California. We are putting the school together now, one partner at a time.

The walk came first

Zay couldn’t afford to finish college. He sold hoodies out of his car, built a streetwear brand, and a few months after a serious car accident taught himself to walk again.

Then he walked across America. Every step was livestreamed, unedited, with the kids of North Philadelphia as the reason. HMBL University is what the walk was for.

What we’re building

A school that pays off

HMBL University will train young people from North Philadelphia in the skilled trades, starting with plumbing, with a path straight into paid work.

We’re lining up the building, the instructors, and the employers who will hire our graduates. More details will be shared here as each piece is confirmed.

Humble, not small. The trades are real careers. Our students will learn from people who do the work.

Proof, not promises. We share what’s done, not what’s hoped for.

For the kids, always. Every partnership is judged by what it does for the students.
